Cape Jaffa Wines

Taste the wild coast.

Cape Jaffa Wines is situated on Limestone Coast Rd, Cape Jaffa in South Australia, 30 kilometers from the picturesque seaside village of Robe.

Owned and operated by the Hooper family who purchased the land in 1992 and started planting the vines in new viticultural region now known as Mount Benson. The first vintage was in 1996 and today 26 vintages later, three generations of the Hooper family are involved in the Cape Jaffa Wine business.

Land and Sea.

The Cape Jaffa Vineyards are planted in terra rossa soils over limestone. Ideal for premium wine grape growing. Being so close to the ocean the maritime breezes help cool the vineyards overnight. This allows for a longer slower ripening period for the grapes which in turns produces fruit with generous, intense flavours and helps creates wines of great finesse, elegance and power.

The Bonney Upwelling which occurs from November to May bringing nutrient rich waters to the surface of the sea along a narrow section of the continental shelf. Stretching from Robe in the West to Portland in the East this is a major contributing factor to the maritime influences which have such a positive effect on the viticulture at Cape Jaffa Wines. The Hooper Family have called their Cabernet Sauvignon “Upwelling”.

BioDynamic & Solar

The Hooper family have been pioneers in South Australia for biodynamic viticulture. Pursuing their values of a light footprint on the land the Cape Jaffa Vineyards were certified biodynamic in 2005 and the winery is entirely off grid and is predominately solar and wind powered.

The premium Cape Jaffa Wines Shiraz, La Lune Shiraz, is grown biodynamically and organically,

The wine is an expression of the Cape Jaffa microclimate, the terroir, the maritime influences and the holistic approach to the land through farming and viticulture of the Hooper family.

The Cape Jaffa Cellar Door is a great place to visit and while away a couple of hours sitting on the deck, enjoying great wines and experiencing the pristine beauty of the Limestone Coast.
